Experience a Taste of Autumn at Mountain View Grand With Our Apple Cider Doughnut Recipe
Nothing says fall like apple cider doughnuts, which is just one of the reasons you won’t want to miss apple-picking season in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. At Mountain View Grand, there are plenty of ways to celebrate the season, from fall foliage tours to tractor hayrides, but none are as delicious as enjoying an apple cider doughnut and a fresh mug of apple cider that you helped to make. Using our farm’s cider press, you can try your hand at crafting apple cider with a blend of “drop apples” from our orchard and other local farms.
One you won’t want to miss is Windy Ridge Orchard. We’ve partnered with the family-owned farm to offer apple-picking excursions, where guests can stroll the orchard brimming with ripe apples. There is something magical about plucking fresh apples straight from the trees, breathing in the sweet scent of the orchard, and basking in the beauty of fall. With 18 varieties ranging from sweet Honey Crisps to the mildly tart Empires, there’s an apple for every palate—and plenty of reasons to fill your basket. It’s the perfect fall adventure for all ages.
Of course, no fall celebration is complete without a sweet treat. One of our favorite ways to enjoy the harvest is with warm, freshly made apple cider doughnuts. Perfectly spiced and lightly dusted with cinnamon sugar, these doughnuts are a fall favorite—and now you can recreate them at home with our special recipe.
Apple Cider Doughnuts
For the Doughnuts:
- 1 1/4 cup of apple cider
- 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup of brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 4 tablespoons of butter, melted
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 cups of oil, for frying
Cinnamon Sugar:
- 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
STEPS:
- In a saucepan, bring the apple cider to a boil for 10 minutes, reduce down to one cup.
- In a bowl, whisk the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, eggs, melted butter, and reduced apple cider. Chill it in the freezer for 30 minutes until it gets firm.
- Place the dough on a floured surface and roll into a large rectangle that is about one-inch thick. Using a round cutter, cut circles out of the rectangle of dough. Then using a smaller cookie cutter, cut out the centers of the doughnuts. Save the centers as doughnut holes.
- Whisk granulated sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
- Heat the oil in a pot until your thermometer reaches 175 degrees F.
- Place two doughnuts at a time and cook them on each side for one minute. Pat them dry with a paper towel and cover them with cinnamon sugar.
These doughnuts pair perfectly with a mug of warm apple cider. Whether you’re joining us this season or enjoying a taste of Mountain View Grand at home, we hope this recipe fills your kitchen with the warmth and joy of autumn.
