Local Area Hiking Trails

Please Note: All hiking can be dangerous. Weather in the White Mountains is notoriously severe. Please prepare for all conditions as weather can change quickly, especially above tree line. Bring Plenty of Food and Water. Be prepared to turn back if conditions become unfavorable. Be conscious of your skill level and that of the rest of your party. Hike Safe!

Easy: Lower Ammonoosuc Falls, Carrol NH

A short hike to a beautiful 40 foot waterfall. Great for kids, bring your bathing suit!

Trail Head GPS Location: N 44° 16.205’, W 71° 28.686’

Directions: Head left on Rt. 3 out of the main driveway. Follow until four way stop light. Take a left on 302. Shortly after that, take a left onto Old Cherry Mountain Road, where you will find the trail head. 

Easy: Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge, Jefferson, NH 

Hike into a wildlife refuge to views of ponds and surrounding mountains. Flat trails along old railroad bed. Just a short drive from the hotel.

Trail Head GPS Location: N 44° 21.525’, W 71°  32.379’

Directions: Take a left out of the parking lot onto Mountain View Road. At the end of the road take a Right onto Rt. 116. Drive a short distance and then take a Left onto Hazen Road (Signs for Airport). At rail crossing take a left onto the airport road. Trail head will be a short distance up this road.

Moderate: Mt. Willard via the Willey Trail

A short hike with a steady incline, it provides spectacular views of Crawford Notch and the surrounding mountains. This is a great hike for beginners and families looking to build up to higher peaks.

Directions: Head left on Rt. 3 out of the main driveway. Follow until four way stop light. Take a left on 302. Follow about 8.7 miles. Trail head is located behind the railroad depot (AMC Crawford Notch Visitors Center)

Moderate: Mt. Pierce via the Crawford Path

One of New Hampshire’s “4000 footers” this moderately graded hike rewards hikers with close up views of the presidential range. Make it a loop and visit Mizpah Hut on the way, one of eight AMC huts in the White Mountains.

Directions: Head left on Rt. 3 out of the main driveway. Follow until four way stop light. Take a left on 302. Follow Route 302 East bound for 8.0 miles. Turn left onto Mount Clinton Road. Mount Clinton Road will be on the right hand side of the road .20 miles past the AMC Highland Center.

Difficult: Lafayette and Lincoln Via Old Bridal Path

This challenging hike is high reward and explores the second highest ridge line in the whites, Tag Mt. Lafayette and head down or continue the loop to Mt. Lincoln and Little Haystack. Terrain is rocky and steep, but the views are phenomenal.

Head left on Rt. 3 out of the main driveway. Follow Signs for I 93 South. Take I 93 South. Take the first exit after 34B called Lafayette Place Campground Trail Head Parking. To begin the hike, follow the foot tunnel under I-93 to the parking lot on the opposite side of the highway.
