Mountain View guests seeking a "green" adventure in the North Country's great outdoors might consider a fun-for-the-whole-family whitewater rafting trip down the famed Androscoggin River.

The weekend Pontook Dam Trip by Raft NH is a family-friendly adventure that rolls along a gorgeous stretch of river through Class II and Class III whitewater that can get a bit technical depending on water levels. Highly trained rafting guides will nail some two- and three-foot breaking waves along the way, getting everyone in the boat soaked and exhilarated on a hot summer day.
 On the way downriver you may well see an active eagle’s nest, while osprey sightings are common and you might spot bear, moose or deer along the banks.



Trips are laid back, which ensures plenty of time to swim and play “boat wheelies” in the big eddy at the end of the rapids. Each half-day session will offer two trips down the river. Participants must be six years of age and older. 

Raft NH also offers a weekday, full-day Errol Rapid Trip starting farther up the Androscoggin. Each day’s session provides at least four trips down the whitewater. Lemonade, water or ice tea is provided along with hearty snacks. The group will be making a stop for a delicious, freshly cooked meal and slideshow of the raft trip at the Mahoosuc Inn in Milan, N.H. on the way back to the base in Gorham. 



Passenger pick-ups at Mountain View are available for groups of five or more. Please contact Raft NH for pick-up times. For those not being picked up, guests must arrive at the Raft NH Base in Gorham 30 minutes before their scheduled departure time.

The season kicks off on Memorial Day weekend. Pontook Dam trips are available May 28-30, every Saturday and Sunday in June, and Friday-Sunday in July and August. Errol rafting trips are available weekdays starting in June.

Northwoods Rafting

North Woods Rafting has been providing programs for the young, old, brave and timid, since 2002, and this year they have also added the more remote Magalloway River to their adventures.

They offer a wide range of trips and programs: full-day raft excursions with four to six whitewater runs and lunch included; half-day trips (two runs and a light meal); solo whitewater and flat water runs in inflatable kayaks (ages 12 and up for whitewater); whitewater rescue and guide training; team-building courses; leisurely float trips with riverside rope swings and a picnic, as well as late-night moonlight paddles.

Northwoods Rafting will pick up groups of 4-10 people at Mountain View Grand and transport them to the base area. North Woods Rafting provides wetsuits, booties, helmets, life jackets, paddles, food, skilled guides, fun and lunch with their semi-famous Wicked Good Cookies. Paddlers should bring dry clothes, a towel, sunscreen, bug spray, hats and sunglasses (with tethers), shoes that can get wet (but will stay on), gratuities, and a smile.
