Where Horses Dance On Mountaintops The Stables at Mountain View Grand
Fresh White Mountain air, stunning scenery and an old-fashioned New Hampshire friendliness greet you when you visit our stables. Our picturesque trails pass through beautiful White Mountains high country and wooded areas.
Not-Your-Average Trail Ride $75 for approximately 90-minute session. Equestrian manager Meridith Atwood specializes in the concept of what is called “natural horsemanship,” with riders spending the first part of the play time session in the ring learning the subtle body language of interaction between horse and rider. Even the most experienced of riders tell us that they have learned a great deal from this program. The rest of the session will be spent on the trail ride itself. All riders must attend the full session, so please be on time. Riders of all ability levels welcome. Up to four riders per session. Ages 11 and up.
Horse Whispering 101 $75 for 90-minute session
This program is for all levels of riders, novice to expert. Equestrian manager Meridith Atwood will speak about how your body posture and personal energy affect a horse’s behavior. Participants will lead a horse out of the stall to the ring, watch a demonstration of “whispering,” then work with their own horse in a very personalized way to derive cooperative behavior. The first half works on trust from the ground, the second learning how your body language and emotions can affect a horse's confidence. In addition to its value in working with our equine friends, “horse whispering” has become a valued team-building activity for businesses seeking to improve their management staff’s interactions with others in their workplace, as well as with their own families.
Carriage and Sleigh Rides $75 for 30-minute ride
Pecos or Belle would be pleased to take you on a gentle carriage journey down Mountain View Road. Sniff the lilacs and apple blossoms and savor the spectacular views of the Presidential Range. The clip-clops of horses’ hooves have been known to put the fussiest child to sleep in just a few minutes. Our handsome carriage, handmade in Quebec, can take four people with a fifth sitting up with the driver. When there is enough snow, we switch to sleigh rides, available for the same price. Sleigh rides pick up at the barn while carriage rides pick up at the front steps. Reservations required.
Pony Rides $10
Meet one of our full-size horses for a five-minute ride. A seasonal offering, this isn't just for children, but is a great option for those under 11.
Lessons Private lesson: $75 for 60 minutes; group lessons (two or more people) $55 for 60 minutes A great learning experience for those six and up and for those too young to participate in trail rides. Our youngest riders may be kept tethered to an instructor for safety. If you have never ridden before, this is a great option to gain confidence in a ring either one-on-one or bring a friend.
