Mountain View Grand Frequently Asked Questions

Horseback & Stable FAQ's

Do I have to stay at the hotel to go horseback riding?

Yes.

Can horses be ridden double?

For safety reasons, double riding is prohibited. Children must be 11 years old or older to ride.

How many people can go on a horseback ride at one time?

We currently have two horses on property.

Can I ride if I have never ridden a horse before?

You bet, but only in the summer season. Our horseback rides are enjoyable for riders of all experience levels. In the fall and winter, guided one-on-one rides are available only for intermediate and experienced riders.

Can we run the horses?

No. Our rides follow beautiful trails that wind through trees and rocks. The terrain is not suitable for running horses, and for the safety of the riders and our horses it is not allowed.

Are helmets available?
Yes, equestrian helmets are available free of charge. (All participants are required to wear a helmet.)

Can we ride on our own without a guide?
No. We require each ride be accompanied by a guide. (We don’t let our “babies” leave home without us!)

Are reservations required?
No, but they are recommended. Horseback riding is a popular activity and we will accommodate walk-ins as best we can. By making a reservation you’ll be guaranteed a horse is waiting for you!

Is there a weight limit or other requirements for riders?
There is no weight limit. However, participants must be physically able to mount their horse unassisted in order to participate in the rides. (A two-step mounting block is provided, as well as friendly coaching from our guides.)

How long are the rides?

One hour. We know that being on vacation is the time to squeeze in as many activities as possible before heading home. To help those who already have a packed schedule, we offer a variety of rides.  Each ride includes a short instruction period before heading out on the trail (consider it a refresher for those who are experienced). All riders are coached in mounting, dismounting and navigating the trails.

My son/daughter is under 8 years old and they’ve ridden before. Can they go on a trail ride?

No. Our trails are challenging and for young riders with small arms and legs it can be impossible. In consideration for the safety of all children and horses, our age and height limits must be followed. We do have horse-drawn cart rides for children.

What if I’m running late and I’m not going to make it to the stable on time for my ride?

No problem! If you’re only a couple minutes behind just find the nearest Mountain View staff or Front desk associate and ask them to give us a call to let us know you’re running behind. If you’re running 10 minutes or more behind please consider rescheduling so that any other guests on the ride are not delayed in their schedules.
