Mountain View proudly played host last week to Qawal Najmuddin Saifuddin & Brothers, a renowned Pakistani musical group visiting the region as part of the “Caravanserai: A Place Where Cultures Meet” program from The Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire.
The award-winning ensemble has toured throughout Europe and the United States, performing at seminars, festivals and in-school programs.
The men are direct descendants of the first qawwali choirs dating back to the 13th Century. Now the torch-bearers of more than 700 years of this mystical Sufi devotional singing tradition, the group played in local schools on October 20, then spent some time at Mountain View Grand. While visiting the hotel they enjoyed sipping coffee and tea in the lobby, then played some giant chess on our outdoor game board before heading off to give a free performance at the Lancaster Town Hall
The group will be performing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Saturday, Oct. 29.
